For the first time in a hundred years special guests who were invited to the Salt Mine were able to admire St.Ursula's chamber which is going to be available for other visitors to see very soon. Also, after years of inaccessability for tourists the guests were shown a descent down to the Michałowice chamber. Among other attractions were a repast to the accompaniment of music played by the Representative Brass Band of the Wieliczka Salt Mine.
A number of guests arrived for the ceremonial opening of the 2009 summer season. Travel agents, journalists and contractors were present. Undoubtedly, being able to see the two tourist routes that were closed for visitation up to date was the greatest attraction. The guest were treated to a meal but first they had to take carefully restored wooden steps down to the second level, which is 100 metres underground, passing the Michałowice chamber.
In Drozdowice 4 chamber an agreement between the Salt Mine and the Polish Tourist Organisation was signed. The Polish Tourist Organisation, due to terms of co-operation, agreed to represent the Salt Mine and play an infomational as well as promotional role in the name of the Salt Mine by placing its logo in the Polish Tourist Organisation's magazines, distributing the Salt Mine's promotional materials and providing the Salt Mine with fair ground free of charge. One of the mutual undertakings is the organisation of the First International Underground Mountain Bike race in 2010.
Apart from that, tourist companies that best co-operate with the Salt Mine were awarded. The first place goes to the CRACOW CITY TOURS company for bringing the biggest number of visitors. Cracow Tours, another tour operator, comes second followed by Jan-Pol. Honours also go to mrs Janina Wypior for educating the young ones about the Salt Mine. Tourist agencies such as Orbis Kraków and TRIP, which have long been cooperating with the Salt Mine, found themselves on the list too.
After the ceremonial meeting the guests went to see the underground part of the Cracow Saltworks museum's exhibition. When walking around the undeground chambers the honourable visitors eyed interesting exhibitions such as Ancient and medieval salt-making and Sacrum in salt-making heritage.
